Physical
Description: Average size with
an athletic frame. Minimal projection remaining, but should add strength
as he matures.
Mechanics: Over-the-top arm slot.
Effort in delivery. Starts on the first base side of the rubber and throws
with a short arm action and a quick arm. Stays in line to the plate.
Fastball: 94-98 mph. On the straight side when up in
the zone. Pitch lacks plane due to his height. Will show life and finish
down in the zone. Generally around the strike zone, but command needs
improvement. Potential plus-plus offering.
Curveball:
76-78 mph. 12-to-6 shape. Tight rotation and sharp break. Has solid feel
for offering and can throw it both in the zone for called strikes and
outside the zone when ahead in the count. Average-to-better potential.
Changeup: 85-90 mph. Firm. Work in progress. Doesn't have
great feel. Will show late sink on occassion, but for the most part
inconsistent.
Below-average potential.
Career Notes: Tore his
UCL in April 2014 during senior season of high school and had Tommy John
surgery in the summer of 2014. Originally committed to St. John's.
Participated in 2015 and 2016 Fall Instructional League.
Summation: Potential late-inning arm if things break
right, but has a long way to go and a lot of risk due to previous Tommy
John surgery. Because of prior arm trouble, delivery, build, and lack of a
third pitch, doesn’t profile as a starter, although will likely be
developed as one. |
