Physical
Description: Athletic, lean, small frame. Room for added strength
gains.
Hit: Contact hitter’s profile with quick
hands and solid hand-eye coordination. Open stance. Does a good job
staying back. Still developing an approach and gets caught too often out
in front of secondary offerings. Does make a lot of contact, but has a
tendency to make weak contact against pitches that it be better to lay
off. Solid separation in his swing and average-to-better bat speed.
Average potential, but could be more if he refines approach as he
matures.
Power: Limited power at present. Will
not be a big part of his game in the future. Even with added strength,
well below-average power potential.
Arm:
Solid-average
arm strength. Has shown on multiple occasions the arm strength to make the
throw from the hole both from a set position and using a jump.
Field: Fluid actions and has solid range in both
directions. Confident coming in on the ball and shows soft hands. Footwork
and posture can get sloppy but has made huge strides of improvement.
Run: Tick above average speed. Learning to read pitchers and
utilize speed. Currently lacks the instincts/feel for stealing bases at a
high success rate. Can score from second and go first to third with ease.
Career notes: A native of Honduras, Dubon
moved to California to pursue a baseball career, staying with the family
of a coach of a missionary team that had come to his village.
Summation: Potential
utility type at the big league level. Athletic with speed and defensive
tools at a young age. Projects to be a contact hitter whose carrying tools
will be his defense, arm, and speed. Still young, with long way to go
developmentally. Defensive tools play at any infield position except first
base. Could also likely handle the outfield if need be to increase
versatility. |
