AST = Approximate Service Time (season end-2009). Measured in years.days. 172 days = 1 year of MLB service time. Generally, players are paid the minimum contract for service years 0 - 2.135, are arbitration eligible for service years 2.135 - 5.171, and are eligible for free agency after accruing 6 years of service time.
