Physical Description:
Undersized catcher’s build. Softish body, below-average athlete. Solid
lower half. Little-to-no projection.
Hit: Starts
with his hands up. Even stance. Uses leg
kick. Below-average bat speed. Short, contact-oriented swing. Bat drags;
struggles with velocity, especially up in the zone. Average pitch
recognition skills. Puts together decent at-bats against low-minors
pitching, but will be tested by more advanced arms. Well below-average
potential.
Power: Not a part of his game. Swing is
tailored for gap power at most. Well below-average raw power. Could run
into a home run or two a season.
Arm: Average arm
strength. Will pop consistently around two seconds on throws to second
base.
Field: Soft hands and average receiving
skills but struggles on balls in the dirt. Gets down reasonably quick, but
needs to improve cushioning the ball and keeping it close when it bounces
off his equipment. Will get out of crouch early at times to cheat on throw
to second, which causes problems when pitch isn’t where he expects it.
Average defensive potential.
Run: 20 speed. Not a
part of his game.
Summation: Projects as a minor
league depth catcher. Ceiling of an organizational type, Double-A
contributor. Won’t add much at the plate; value will be drawn from defense
behind the pate. Will need to show solid game-calling and receiving skills
to stick around. |
