  Scouting Report & Links

Physical Description: Filled-out, compact build. Athletic and strong.

Hit: Fringe-average hit tool that has flashed average or better potential on occasion. High strikeout rate. Overly agressive, lacks patience. Switch hitter.

Power: Average power to the gaps but flashed plus power potential in 2019.

Run: Above-average runner. Stolen bases are not a big part of his game.

Field: Super utility player capabale of playing all infield and outfield positions. Has plus defensive potential, but shows lapses in concentration, leading to being error prone. Plus range.

Arm: Plus arm.
Career Notes: Climbed the ladder as a top prospect in the Twins' system. Finished 7th in AL Rookie of the Year voting in 2014. Traded to Atlanta in 2017 for Kevin Chapman. Signed with the Red Sox during Spring Training in 2021 and eventually joined the club after playing well on a rehab assignment and then in Triple-A, but struggled mightily in MLB in limited playing time. Received an 80-game suspension in April 2022 after testing positive for Boldenone while a free agent. Signed with the Red Sox in late July 2022 at a time when the club's high minors depth had been significantly thinned by injuries at the MLB level. Played seven games in the FCL before being released because trade acquisitions and returning MLB players buttressed the organization's high-minors rosters.

Summation: Former major league-caliber utility player approaching the tail end of his career. Best used as Triple-A depth at this point in his career.
