Q&A with David Renfroe
2011 Prospect Preview
2012 Prospect Preview
Renfroe embracing second year (5.11.12) |
Retired (Jan. 2014)
Scouting Report:
Solid frame with a well filled-out
lower body. Hits from an open stance that closes on pitch approach. Stance
appears to be a bit too open and may close down some as he progresses.
Renfroe was said to have had an advanced approach in high school, but his
pitch recognition and pitch selection skills are being challenged by pro
pitching in the early going. Hesitates to attack balls and chases
off-speed stuff. Average present power with potential to add more down the
line as he learns the strike zone and improves on count management. Pull
happy. Has the ability to hit gap-to-gap with power as he settles in. Good
bat speed with lift in his swing path, but can be long through the zone.
Speed is just average and won't be a factor as he continues to mature
physically. Still learning the ins-and-outs of playing third base, as he
was a shortstop in high school. Potential to be a solid-average defender.
Good first step. Plus arm. Renfroe is in the early stages of building his
offensive approach and refining his skills. Progress may be slow in the
beginning of his career, but the potential is there to be a solid hitter
with above-average power. Transititioned to pitching in the later summer
of 2013 and retired soon therafter. |
