Physical
Description: Skinny, athletic build. Room for added strength.
Mechanics: Quick, deceptive delivery from a low
three-quarters arm slot. Solid athlete, able to repeat delivery. Hides
ball well until release point, creating effective deception.
Fastball: 89-92 mph. Shows arm-side run and is very
difficult to square up when he keeps it down in the zone. Average
offering. Very good command and control.
Changeup:
82-84 mph. Best secondary pitch. Depth and late sink. Solid-average
offering.
Slider: 79-82 mph. Slurvy at times.
Needs refinement. Lacks tilt. Below-average offering. More of a show-me
pitch to keep hitters honest
Career Notes:
Comes from the very rough Hazard Park neighborhood in East Los Angeles,
and draws raves for his determination and makeup after coming from such a
modest background.
Summation: Emergency
major-league arm, hole filler, situational type reliever. Doesn’t have any
standout stuff or an impressive profile, but he knows how to pitch and has
a three-pitch mix that will play out of the bullpen. Funky delivery,
throwing from a low arm slot and slinging the ball, making him especially
tough for right-handed hitters to pick up. Can also get left-handed
hitters out with his changeup even though his arm slot is easier for them
to pick up.
