Physical Description:
Undersized for a pitcher, with a mature frame. Well-developed lower half
with minimal remaining projection.
Mechanics:
Throws from a three-quarters arm slot from the first base side of the
rubber. Has a funky leg kick, bringing his leg high and then kicking it
out sideways before coming to the plate. Short arm action, keeps the ball
hidden behind his body so hitters don’t pick the ball up until late.
Fastball: 88-91 mph four-seamer. Tops out at 92 mph. Advanced
command and control of the pitch. Pitch jumps on hitters and misses bats
at the minor league level even though velocity is only average at best.
Pounds the strike zone, can locate to both sides of the plate. Potential
average offering with command profile and deception that allow pitch to
play up.
Changeup: 80-82 mph with backspin. Thrown with
deceptive arm speed and has separation from fastball. Shows late fade. Has
advanced feel for the offering, willing to throw the pitch in any count
and to hitters from both sides of the plate, though it is more effective
against right-handed hitters. Induces flyballs.
Slider:
83-85 mph. Clear third pitch, induces flyballs. Has cutter-ish movement. |

Curveball:
73-76 mph. Lacks tilt. Short, vertical
movement. Doesn't use often. Below-average offering, seems to be phasing
out the pitch.
Career Notes:
Was a surprise addition to the Major League roster out of Spring Training
in 2018 as a non-roster invitee. Pitched on a loaded UF pitching staff in
college that contained five future first-round picks. Pitched for the Red
Sox in 2018, but was inactive for the World Series. After not
receiving an invitation to Spring Training, began 2021 on the
"Development List" at the Alternate Training Site.
Summation: Projects as an
up-and-down middle reliever. Rarely walks hitters and has shown the ability to miss
bats in the high minors even with fringy stuff. Fastball/changeup combination allows him to
get right-handed hitters out effectively; has posted reverse splits
throughout career. Doesn't have a high ceiling, but
has a high floor. Strong pitchability and feel on the mound. Knows how to
pitch and get hitters out while minimizing hard contact.
