Scouting Scratch: Notes from the backfields (3.19.15)
|
Released (Dec. 2015)
Scouting Report:
Big, solid pitcher’s frame with some remaining projection. Long levers; a
lot of moving parts in his delivery. Throws from the first base side using
a three-quarters arm slot. Quick to the plate. Long arm action, loops all
the way around and shows the ball behind. Fastball generally sits 90-92
mph, but has topped out at 94 mph in the past. Tends to lose velocity as
he gets into his second and third innings of work. 74-76 mph, 11-to-5
curveball is inconsistent, but will flash depth and two-plane break. Pitch
is generally on the loose side and rolls to the plate. Lacks finish and
will slow body on occasion. Nunez was a highly regarded prospect coming
out of high school, and flashed good stuff but a lack of control during
his freshman season at Southern Miss. In 2013, he suffered a major arm
injury that caused him to miss most of the season.
