Physical Description: Large,
fully-filled out pitcher's frame. Thick lower half. Shows
athleticism for his size.
Mechanics:
Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, starting on the first
base side of the rubber. Low-to-medium leg kick. Slight slinging
motion with some effort. Quick arm. Solid pickoff move. Subpar
overall control and command.
Fastball:
89-91 mph sinker induces a lot of groundballs. Works down in the
zone. Previously utilized a 93-95 mph four-seamer, but scrapped
the pitch in 2020 after his velocity had consistently dropped to
91-93 in 2019. Inconsistent command and control. Pitch will
flash above-average.
Changeup: 80-83 mph
with arm-side fade. Fringe-average pitch. Added an 83-84 mph
split change in 2020 with cutting action. Induces a lot of
flyballs.

Breaking Ball: 84-86 mph. Threw a slider in the
mid-80s that was a fringe-average pitch, but he used it
sparingly in 2020 and might have switched to a curveball in the
low-80s at the end of the season.
Career Notes:
Missed time in college with knee injuries. First player in
Marist history to reach the majors. Moved quickly through Royals
system in 2013-15. Endured a torn elbow ligament in 2014.
Reached minor league free agency in 2020 and was the first minor
league free agent signed by Boston that offseason. Performed
well in spring training and some wondered if he would make the
MLB club due to upward mobility clause in contract. Opened 2021
at the Alternate Training Site. Released in August.
Summation: Emergency up-and-down reliever with
the ceiling of a middle-inning setup man. Control remains an
issue. Improvement could flow from new split change and improved
pitch mix.
