Physical
Description: Athletic, medium build. Physically mature.
Hit: Line-drive stroke, compact swing. Quick hands
through the zone. Gap-to-gap approach. Solid knowledge of the strike zone.
Will tend to pull off pitches and can get beat on the inner-third as he
needs to work on keeping his hands inside the baseball. Swing can get
choppy at times.
Power:
Not part of his game. Future below-average power. Will hit the occasional
home run off a mistake pitch.
Arm: Can make all
the throws and deep in the hole at shortstop. Above-average arm strength.
Field: Plus defender. Extremely athletic. Not
flashy, makes it look easy. As fundamentally sound as they come. Great
body control and is able to throw from all angles and on the run. Active
lower half with agility, quick lateral movements, and soft hands. Plus
range and first-step quickness and reactions. Future gold glove potential.
Run: Average runner. Natural instincts. Can steal
a base, but it won’t be a big part of his game.
Career
Notes: Excellent freshman and sophomore seasons, but struggled
his junior year at ASU which contributed to him falling to the Red Sox at
24. Played for the Team USA Collegiate team as a sophomore, leading the
team in hits and RBIs. Underwent surgery for bone spurs in his right elbow
during 2016-17 offseason.
Summation: Backup
infielder. Defense-first profile with elite defense and gold glove
potential. Hit tool unfortunately doesn't hold water with rest of league,
even at shortstop. |
