Scouting Scratch: Manuel Margot... (7.24.13)
2013 Top 40 Season in Review
2014 Top 40 Season in Review
Trade Analysis: Scouting... (11.13.15)
Traded to
San Diego with Logan Allen, Javier Guerra, and Carlos Asuaje for Craig
Kimbrel (Nov. 2015) |
Physical Description: Medium frame with fast-twitch
muscle and above-average athleticism. Some physical projection remaining
and needs to add strength.
Hit: Has a
fluid swing. Quick hands. Smooth load and little wasted movement. Hands
stay in position to hit, with separation during stride. Plus bat speed.
Natural bat-to-ball skills. Presently a line-drive hitter. Surprisingly
polished approach for his age. Has shown willingness to see pitches, but
typically likes to attack early in the count. This aggressiveness can lead
to weak contact when he expands his strike zone. Swing can get long. Needs
to work on going to all fields. Future solid-average-to-plus hit tool.
Power: Surprising power for someone his size. Ball makes
unique sound off his bat. Doubles power has started developing into
over-the-fence power. Squares the ball up consistently and can drive with
backspin. Average power potential (15ish home runs a year). Could hit 30
doubles a year.
Arm: Average arm strength,
quick release. Plenty of arm for center.
Field:
Reads the ball off the bat well in center field. Graceful when tracking
fly balls and shows understanding of how to take precise routes. Will be
able to stick in center. Plus range, projects as a well above-average
defender in center.
Run: Plus-plus speed. Gets
out of the box quickly. Needs to improve reads when stealing bases.
Potential to steal 30-plus bases at the big league level.
Career Notes: Lone home run in Lowell in 2013 was
inside-the-park. Began 2015 season with a streak of 62 at-bats without a
strikeout, which was 79 at-bats extending back into the prior season.
Summation: Future
first-division regular who could contribute in all areas of the game.
Potential leadoff hitter who could hit for average and some power, steal
bases and provide above average defense at a premium defensive position.
Strong instincts, has really taken to professional baseball since he
entered the system and adjusted to each challenge given to him seamlessly. |
