Physical Description: Thin frame with lots of
projection to add power. Very athletic.
Hit: Raw and toolsy. Has shown
some flashes of plus potential against advanced high school
competition, but has also struggled against offspeed offerings.
Wide stance, repeatable swing with smooth mechanics. Good
extension and bat speed but can get long at times.
Power: Current gap power with the potential to
develop into above-average power.
Plus runner at present - fast on the bases with fluid movements.
Physical maturation could limit speed.
Arm: Above-average arm strength. Quick hands
Defense: Quick footwork, fast twitch response.
Fluid movements. Good hands. Smart player, but still very raw in
terms of positional fundamentals. Above-average potential but
will need time to develop. Has the ability to stick at short
with proper commitment, but a move to second base or third base
is not out of the question.
First overall pick in the 2019 draft in the Puerto Rican winter
league. Nephew of former MLB player Carlos Beltran, whose baseball
academy he attended. Committed to University of Miami.
Participated in the Fall Instructional League in 2019.
Summation: Chance to
develop into a five-tool shortstop, but is several years away
and will need attention on development, particularly with
approach against offspeed pitching and refinment of raw power
and shortstop fundamentals.
