Scouting Report:
Left-hander was
the ace of Miami's pitching staff for three seasons. Works from the
first-base side of rubber and throws from a mid-3/4 arm slot. Pitches
heavily to contact. Four-seam fastball tops out at 86-87 mph. Mostly spots
his fastball on the outside corner to right-handed hitters. Must stay away
from inside. Also utilizes a cutter that works 81-84 mph to keep hitters
off-balance and out in front. Currently his go-to pitch. Tries to throw it
under the hands of hitters to create weak groundballs. Also mixes in a
fringe-average 80-81 mph changeup with drop and occasional fade away from
right-handed batters. Curveball sits 76-79 mph and needs tightening. Tends
to be slurvy and lacks deep break. Hernandez has outstanding mound
presence and composure. Knows how to pitch and changes speeds effectively.
Does not miss bats. Walks a fine line with stuff. Will have to be
extremely fine against major-league hitters. With sharpening of his
curveball, projects as a sixth or seventh inning situational reliever. |
