Scouting Report:
Local product from Milton, Massachusetts. A two-way player in college,
Hassan was drafted as a pitcher but impressed enough in the Cape Cod
League in 2009 that the organization decided he may be better suited as an
outfielder. Big frame. Swing is on the long side, but compensates by
choking up on the bat frequently and adjusting during at-bats.
Fringe-average hit tool. Sits back on breaking pitches well, but needs
work catching up with high-velocity fastballs on inner third.
Above-average approach and strike-zone management skills. Brings a plan to
the plate. Grinds out at-bats. Can struggle with sharp breaking balls.
Average power ceiling. Does not drive ball well to opposite field. Tends
to hit with too much upper body and produce topspin. Below-average speed.
On the slow side tracking balls in left field. Average range. Not overly
athletic in field. Fringe-average defender in left field. Plus arm. Value
on roster is heavily tied into offensive production. Projects as a
bench/up-and-down player on a second-division team. Began to see time at
first base in 2013 to develop positional flexibility.
