2015 Top 40 Season in Review
Scouting Scratch (9.7.17)
Signed with Samsung Lions of
the Korea Baseball Organization (November 2018)
Tall, strong pitcher's build. Strong lower half. Close to maxed out
Mechanics: Throws from a high
three-quarters arm slot. Stiff, vertical delivery. Starts with a wide base
and pushes off the third base side of the rubber. Long arm action with a
point and stab when his arm is behind his body. Minimal deception in his
delivery. Front shoulder has a tendency to open up early with his arm
Fastball: 89-92 mph. Has topped out at 95 mph in the past. Late downward action
when he pitches downhill. Pitch jumps on hitters. Below-average command,
but has shown the ability at times to locate to both sides of the plate
when he wants. Manipulates the pitch at times, adding cut or sink.
Changeup: 80-82 mph.
Flashes drop and fade. Shown solid feel for the offering. Fringe-average-to-average potential.
Breaking ball: Has thrown both a slider and curveball in the past. Both have
fringe-average potential. Slider flashes bite and bat-missing
ability. Can throw for strikes or bury down and out of the zone when
looking to waste a pitch. Only shown the curveball in his outings in 2015.
75-77 mph. Pitch is loose and tends to roll to the plate. Longer break at
lower velocities and shorter vertical break at higher. Below-average
offering at present.
Summation: Ceiling of
number five starter or swingman type. Profiles as a likely up and down
depth arm. Rough mechanics and lack of true plus offering limit likelihood
of reaching ceiling. Solid pitchability. Stuff could play up in bullpen
