Physical Description:
Filled-out, mature-bodied frame. Evenly proportioned, no
remaining projection.
Mechanics: Throws
from a high three-quarters arm slot. Effort in delivery. Starts
with his hands low and utilizes a semi-wind up. Delivery is
slightly closed off towards the plate with an arm hook in the
back.
Fastball: 93-95 mph. Tops out at
96 mph. Fairly true and straight. Likes to pitch up in the zone
with the pitch. Fills the zone, but has inconsistent command of
the pitch and will get hit when he is not spotting it.
Above-average potential but will need to improve command.
Curveball: 77-79 mph. Has improved greatly
since 2019 and scouts now view it as his best secondary pitch.
Tight rotation and really snaps it off. Potential above-average
offering.
Cutter: 85-87 mph. Shape
varies. At its best will show sharp, boring action in on
left-handed hitters' hands. Pitch will show bat-missing ability.
Average potential.
Changeup: 83-85 mph.
Show-me pitch at present. Rarely throws it.

Career Notes: Reportedly taught himself his
cutter over winter break during his junior year. Transferred to
FGCU after two years at Indian River State College. Brother,
Jonathon, was a first-round pick out of the University of
Florida in 2013 by Detroit. Was invited to 2017 Fall
Instructional League prior to it being cancelled. In 2019,
pitched just one game after July 15, in mid-August, due to a
forearm strain, and eventually underwent Tommy John surgery in
late October 2019, then had another procedure to remove bone
spurs from his elbow in June or July 2020. Participated in 2020
Fall Instructional League, although he did not participate in
simulated games at that point in his rehab. Made MLB debut in
September 2021 while Red Sox dealt with a covid-19 outbreak. Was
added back to the 40-man roster in November 2021 to protect him
from selection in the Rule 5 Draft. Played with Patellar
tendonitis in his right knee for all of 2024 after tripping
covering first base in his third start, and had a setback in
December 2024 in the weight room. Caused him to miss the start
of the 2025 season.
Summation:
Projects as middle reliever. Ceiling of a high-quality swingman,
capable of pitching in short or long relief outings with the
occasional spot start as well. Has the potential for two
above-average offerings in his fastball and curveball and a
solid third pitch with his cutter, but command needs refinement.
Combination of delivery and injury track record point towards
him being best suited for a bullpen role.
