Physical Description: Filled-out right-hander
with a strong lower half. No remaining projection.
Mechanics: Throws from a low three-quarters arm
slot, starting on the first base side of the rubber. Jerky
delivery with a long arm action. Short strider. Arm-heavy
delivery, very quick arm. Falls off hard to the first base side.
Inconsistent release point. Struggles to repeat his delivery at
times.
Fastball: 94-97 mph. Tops out at
99 mph. Pitch has life and bat-missing ability. High spin rate.
Command and control have been much improved in 2025. Has
consistently been getting ahead and is able to locate pitch in
the strike zone. Has a very inconsistent track record with
throwing strikes in the past, however, especially at the major
league level. Potential plus-to-better offering.
Slider: 85-89 mph. Long, sweepy break. More
horizontal than vertical. Tough pitch for righties to square up
with his slot. Has shown bat-missing ability. Potential average
offering.
Changeup: 89-92 mph. Firm
with arm-side run. Inconsistent offering that looks like a
two-seam fastball at times. Struggles to consistently land in
the zone. Below-average offering.
Summation:
Potential up-and-down depth reliever. Stuff and strike-throwing
ability has taken a step-forward in 2025, but still has a
volatile profile. Limited track record of throwing strikes and
still gives up hard contact in the air when hitters put the ball
in play. Fastball-slider combo is intriguing and has shown
considerable bat-missing ability in Triple-A. Extensive injury
history will also always create durability concerns.

Career Notes: Was seen as a potential early Day
2 draft pick out of high school, but was not drafted until the
24th round by Minnesota and did not sign. Pitched for Chatham in
the Cape Cod League. Was drafted again by the Twins out of
Louisville, in the second round of the 2014 draft, when he was
seen as a potential fast-riser to the majors in a bullpen role
who could touch 100 mph. Rare Day 1 pick who has only pitched in
relief in his career. Received an invitation to MLB spring
training with the Twins in 2016 after just one full minor league
season. Missed most of the 2016 season with a bone bruise in his
right elbow, then missed most of the 2017 season after
undergoing Tommy John surgery in late May/early June. Was
drafted by Philadelphia in the 2017 Rule 5 Draft then traded
immediately to Pittsburgh for $500,000 in international free
agent bonus pool money. Missed most of the 2019 season due to
injury, undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. Only
made three appearances in 2020 before going on the injured list
with an elbow injury for which he eventually underwent a second
Tommy John surgery in October. Was designated for assignment by
the Pirates in November 2020, after which he elected free
agency. Signed with San Diego in December 2020 to rehab with the
Padres. Began the 2022 season on the injured list and was
released in late March, but re-signed with San Diego less than
two weeks later. Was selected by the Cubs in the minor league
phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft and returned to the majors with
them in May 2023. Underwent an emergency appendectomy later that
month, missing two-and-a-half months. Elected free agency after
being outrighted that offsason and signed with the Yankees in
December 2023. Made the MLB team out of camp but again missed
significant time due to injury, this time a hip injury that
sidelined him for just over two months. Was optioned to Triple-A
in August 2024 after being activated, and was designated for
assignment in September, clearing waivers. Elected free agency
after the season. Signed with Boston as a minor league free
agent after Spring Training had started in February 2025 and did
not receive an invitation to major league camp.
