Physical Description: Athletic, filled-out frame with
limited potential for more physical development. Has filled out
considerably since he joined the organization. Strong lower half and core.
Hit: Smooth, fluid swing that generates lift.
Elite bat speed. Strong and explosive hands with good separation during
stride. Stays balanced. Creates solid post-contact extension. Improving
using hands during swing to stay inside the baseball. Shows strong
fluidity going with pitches the other way for being age-advanced.
Developing the makings of a solid plate approach. Pitch recognition
improving, especially against off-speed offerings. Can get pull-happy at
times and has proven to be susceptible to breaking balls down and away.
Overall, a potential plus hitter at the big league level.
Power: Plus-to-better power ceiling. Potential 25+ home
run bat. Ball jumps off bat. Shows the ability to drive the ball to all
fields with backspin and carry.
Run: Fringe-average speed. Not a major part of his game.
Field: Potential
average defensive profile. Solid-average range, but may lose foot speed as
he gets bigger. Needs to slow the game down defensively and resist the
feeling to rush plays. Inconsistent with footwork and staying down on the
ball. Choppy at times with his movements and reactions.
Arm: Plus arm,
able to make all the throws from shortstop. Can struggle with accuracy at
times due to sloppy footwork. |

Career Notes: Signed with the Red Sox as the same
time as his brother, Jair, a catcher who has since retired and is an
aspiring agent. Participated in the 2013 World Baseball Classic as a
member of the Netherlands team that finished in fourth place. World Series
champion in 2013 and 2018.
Summation: Potential all-star and top-five shortstop in
the game. Realistically profiles as a first-division, bat-first
shortstop. Potential to hit for plus average and power.
Improvements in the field and physical development should allow
Bogaerts to stick at shortstop for the outset of his big league
career. If he needs to move off the position, has the tools to
play either third base or left field. Highly coachable and
displays strong work ethic. High baseball IQ with impressive
maturity.
