Trade Analysis (7.31.16)
Traded to
the NY Mets with Stephen Nogosek and Jamie Callahan for Addison Reed (July
2017)
|
Physical Description: Tall and lanky with a very skinny
waist. Long limbs with some room to fill out as he matures, though not as
much as you might think given his build. Live arm.
Mechanics: Throws from an over-the-top arm slot and has a shot
put-like arm motion, during which he seems to be almost guiding the ball,
especially when he works to the glove side. Works from the middle of the
rubber with his hands set at the belt. Delivery is on the stiff side and
very mechanical: his body tilts on leg lift, and then his arm comes across
his body. Lots of moving parts, head whip. Struggles to find a consistent
release point and repeat delivery.
Fastball: 94-97
mph. Have seen him hit 98 mph in 2016, and has reportedly hit 100 mph.
Pitch will show sink and arm-side run. Below-average command and control.
Potential plus-plus offering with refinement and improvement with command
and control.
Splitter: 90-92 mph. Pitch shows late
dive down in the zone, but lacks separation from his Fastball. Has evolved
from a 86-87 mph Changeup which was on the firm side. Average potential
offering.
Slider: mid-80s. Looks like a power
curveball at times with short, vertical break. Below-average potential.
Career Notes:
Missed the 2013 season due to a suspension after testing positive for
metabolites of Stanozolol. Participated in 2014, 2015, and 2016 Fall
Instructional League.
Summation: Intriguing arm strength, but more of a lottery
ticket at this point. Bullpen profile, but needs to physically mature as
well as simplify and cleanup delivery. Has raw stuff to profile in a
late-inning role, but extremely risky prospect with injury and command
profile concerns due to delivery. Long way to go developmentally. |
