Scouting Report: Tall and lanky lefty. Changes speeds well and hits his spots most of the time.  Fastball isn't fantastic, topping out in the mid 80s,  but throws all of his pitches with very good control.  Changeup sits around 74 mph.  Curveball is generally in the low-to-mid 60s and needs a lot of work.  Very mature, knows what he needs to do to prepare for each game.  Legally blind in his left eye.  Wears his hat to the side to balance the lighting in his blind eye - not as a fashion statement.  Alvarez spent his early years in the organization as a starter, but is remaking himself as a lefty reliever.
