The Write-Up: Lowell (8.4.15)
Scouting Scratch (10.21.15)

Physical Description: Small, skinny frame. Doesn’t have much projection due to size and lacks strength. Athletic, quick-twitch player.

Hit: Switch-hitter utilizes the same set-up from both sides of the plate. Has a slightly open stance and a short, compact, contact-oriented swing. Solid feel for hit with an all-fields approach and has shown the willingness to shorten up with two strikes. Solid pitch recognition skills, makes a lot of contact. Potential fringe-average hit tool.

Power: No power. Lacks strength and swing is not designed to drive the ball in the air.

Arm: Above-average arm strength. Accurate with a quick release.

Field: Very fluid, instinctual defender. Solid fundamentals. Has very soft hands and easy actions. Solid range to both sides and is comfortable charging the ball. Knows how to play angles and plays the position with a certain flair. Will make difficult plays look easy at times. Potential plus defender.

Run: Average speed. Will steal a few bases mainly due to instincts and ability to read pitchers.

Career Notes: Godson of former major league outfielder Andres Torres, who spent a couple months in the Red Sox minor league system in 2014 at the same time Rivera was drafted and signed.

Summation: Potential solid organizational player who sticks around for a long time in the minors due to his glove and makeup. Asset to pitchers due to his defensive ability, but almost no potential at the plate. Could hit for an empty .240 or so with low slugging and an on-base percentage around .300. Ceiling of an emergency up-and-down defensive specialist.
