Physical Description: Small, thin frame. Type of
athlete you don’t usually see at catcher. Needs to add strength. Still
developing lower half. Doesn’t have the frame to support significant
weight gain and will always be small for a catcher.
Hit:
Switch-hitter with fringy bat speed. Starts with an open stance and
utilizes a toe tap timing device. Swing is longer from the left side.
Doesn’t get cheated; long swing. Will almost fall over at times on swing.
Rudimentary pitch recognition skills. Makes a fair amount of contact,
especially early in the count due to aggressive approach.
Power: No over-the-fence power. Gap power at best. Not a part of
his game.
Arm: Plus arm strength. Confident in
arm, quick release. Accurate. Has shown the ability to back-pick runners
if they stray too far off the bag.
Field: Very
athletic for a catcher. Moves well behind the plate; gets down quickly to
block balls in the dirt. Has shown good receiving skills. Can lose
fundamentals at times, especially with runners on base. Potential to be a
average-to-better defender. |

Run: Solid-average
speed. Will steal a base if defense doesn’t pay attention to him. Able to
turn doubles into triples on balls in the gap.
Career
Notes: Was suspended 25 games in June 2016 under minor league
drug program for use or possession of a syringe at a team facility, in
team-provided housing, or while traveling with a club. Played sparingly in
brief stint with Greenville in early 2016 before returning to extended
spring training to repeat Lowell. Participated in 2015 Fall Instructional
League.
Summation: Has some intriguing tools for a
catcher with unique athleticism for the position, plus arm strength and
decent contact skills. Profiles as upper minors
depth with opportunity to develop into an up-and-down emergency
catcher.
