Physical Description: Large right-hander with a soft
body. Packed on pounds in his early 20s. Minimal
physical projection left, will have to continue to watch conditioning.
Mechanics: Throws from a high three-quarters to
over-the-top slot from the third base side. Falls off hard in his
delivery, with poor balance and posture and an arm hook behind. Lacks arm
speed. Some front-side deception.
Fastball: 84-86
mph. Tops out at 87 mph. Throws strikes, pitch lacks life and is on the
straight side. Velocity drops as he works deeper into games. Below-average
potential.
Curveball: 68-71 mph. Long 12-to-6
break. Pitch is on the slow, loopy side. Has some feel and can throw for
strikes or bury down in the zone. Fringe average potential.
Changeup: 82-83 mph. Slows arm. Lacks differential from
fastball. Well below-average potential.
Summation:
Tall right-hander has a big frame, but stuff doesn’t match up. Gets outs
by mixing pitches and throwing strikes, but doesn’t project to miss enough
bats. Unless stuff takes a significant step forward, will struggle to get
out of the low minors. |
