Selected by Houston in the Rule 5 Draft (Dec. 2012)
Scouting Report:
Medium-build over-the-top throwing
righty. 92-93 MPH fastball that tops out at 95. On the straight side and
lacks late movement. Struggles with the command and control of his heater.
Issues stem from consistently repeating his release point. Due to straight
nature of fastball, he must work down in the zone and on the corners
against advanced hitters. Can pick spots to elevate past hitters when
reaching back. Plus at times 76-81 MPH curveball with 12-to-6 break. In
the lower end of velocity, curve is especially deep and shows tight,
knee-bending break. With refinement and work locking in his release point,
the offering can be a plus pitch. Now also working on using changeup more.
Pitch varies in velocity between 69-76 MPH and floats to the plate without
much fade. Slows down arm considerably when throwing it. Presently grades
as a well below-average offering, but trying to refine it. Ceiling of
7th/8th inning reliever. |
