Physical Description:
Tall, lanky frame. Projectable, with plenty of room to add strength as he
matures.
Mechanics: Over-the-top arm slot.
Mechanics are on the rough side with a high leg kick, trunk twist, and
rock back before coming forward to the plate. Lands hard and falls off
balance to the first base side. Some deception in delivery.
Fastball: 89-91 mph. Tops out in the low-90s. Potential
to add some velocity as he matures. On the straight side, but seems to
jump on hitters due to deception in delivery. Still developing command and
control. Potential plus offering if velocity ticks up slightly.
Curveball: 74-78
mph. Long 12-to-6 break. Advanced feel for the offering. Really snaps the
pitch off and will throw in any count to both right-handed and left-handed
hitters. Pitch has depth and tight rotation at its best. Potential
above-average offering.
Changeup: 83 mph.
Firm. Clear third offering. Work in progress.
Summation:
High-risk arm with a lot of development remaining. Has a starter's build
and the potential for at least two solid-average or better offerings.
Development of changeup and cleaning up delivery will be key as he
progresses through the system. Upside of a back end starter if third-pitch
and command and control allow. Fastball/curveball combination could play in
a bullpen role should his development as a starter stunt. |
