Scouting Report: Bayer was a man among boys against Division III competition in 2009, both in terms of his unmatched performance and the fact that he was a 23-year old senior. Bayer uses a 83-84 mph slider as his out pitch, but heavily relies on his plus two-seam sinker, which sits between 87-88 mph. Below average command. Extreme groundball splits. Bayer will be 24 by the end of 2009, making him one of the oldest draftees in the 2009 draft class. Regardless, he's an interesting pick worth keeping an eye on.
