Scouting Report:
Slugger with high power potential - won the Cape Cod League home run
hitting contest in 2005. Demonstrated power potential at lower
levels in 2006 and 2007, but has not carried it to higher levels since.
Has maintained strength, but has struggled with making consistent
contact and elevating the ball since reaching Double-A. Altered
his mechanics prior to 2009 season by shortening his swing and
eliminating his leg kick timing step, resulting in more balance and a
better ability to turn on the ball. Possesses above-average plate
discipline and generally shows a selective approach at the plate and an
ability to work counts, but can struggle with breaking balls and
sometimes reaches for balls outside of the zone. Hits
well to the
opposite field. Average range and quickness at first base. Good
glove, very strong fundamentally - plays smart in the field.
Excellent at picking balls in the dirt and grabbing errant throws.
Worked a lot in the outfield at the start of the 2009 season, but likely
won't stick there long-term. Hard worker with a
professional demeanor, well-liked and respected by his
teammates. Prepares well mentally and physically for each game. |
