2015 Top 40 Season in Review

Physical Description: Average build with some projection

Hit: Starts with a slightly closed, vertical stance. Hands high. Slight leg lift. Average bat speed. Swing is on the long side and has the tendency to come around the ball. Likes the ball out away from his body where he can get extended. Strong feel for hitting. Has shown an all-fields approach, even at a young age. Takes a professional batting practice. Fringe-average to average potential. Surprisingly solid approach for his age, but will be tested by more advanced pitching outside of the complex leagues.

Power: Average power potential. Surprising power for his size. Has shown the ability to square the ball up with backspin.

Arm: Plus arm. Able to make the throw from deep third.

Field: Slightly undersized for third base, but soft hands and solid footwork. Quick reactions. Split time between second base and third base during the 2014 season. Also played first base in fall instructs after the 2014 season and, apparently, center field in Venezuela during winter ball.

Run: Fringe-average speed. Solid instincts, but won’t be a threat to steal bases. Smart baserunner.

Career Notes: His eight home runs in the DSL in 2013 were the most by a Red Sox in that league since at least 2006, the first year for which DSL stats are easily available.

Summation: Fringe regular potential. Versatility will serve him well as he goes forward. Frame profiles best at second base, but foot speed and athletic profile better suited for the corner infield.
